Anguish

A stab if anguish, a dagger of bitterness,
Painful thoughts, horrid emotions,
Pressing hard against chest and heart,
Feelings of betrayal and mistrust.
Who can you count on?
Who will stand by you at all times?
Trials and hellish times show
With flying colors of blue tears,
Black thoughts, red hazes of anger,
And gray thoughts of the next day.
Who can you count on?
Who will stand by you at all times?
Shadows and darkness curl at your feet,
In your mind, around your heart,
Threatening to put out any good,
Any bright and pleasant things you have.
Who can you count on?
Who will stand by you at all times?
In the least expected moment,
In the slightest act of instinct,
At the worst time possible,
It all becomes clear just exactly,
Who you can count on, and
Who will stand by you at all times.
